Horizon Windows Ltd - ICO Enforcement Notice

 Article added: 18/06/2018

Only 104 TPS complaints

Sometimes it’s difficult to work out just how many complaints will get you on the radar of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). Well Horizon Windows Ltd got there for 104 complaints made against them for calling numbers registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) between January 2016 and January 2017. That’s an average of 8 complaints a month.

How many calls does your business make each month and could you get 8 TPS complaints?

Despite being investigated by the ICO, Horizon Windows Ltd continued to get a further 25 TPS complaints between January 2017 and May 2018. Surprisingly, this didn’t seem to go against them as the ICO only issued them with an Enforcement Notice rather than a Monetary Penalty Notice (MPN).

TPS Services Richard Kane said:

“You don’t have to be a very pro-active business to make even a small number of calls.

Getting 104 complaints over a period of 13 months and a further 25 complaints over the following 16 month period is something even the smallest of businesses could get if they don’t screen their data properly against the TPS.

Granted they didn’t get fined, but if Horizon Windows Ltd getting an Enforcement notice doesn’t bring it home to small businesses that you could be the ICO’s next publicity patsy, nothing will. ”
